FRANKLIN, Ind. - The co-president and co-founder of Vera Bradley, designer of distinctive handbags, luggage, home décor and accessories, will be the speaker for the 2008 Cummins Lecture in Ethical Leadership at Franklin College. This is the second year of the three year lecture series.

Patricia R. Miller’s visit is made possible through funding provided by the Cummins Foundation.
She will present a lecture titled “A life-long pursuit of learning is the grand prize in human existence” on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 11 a.m. in the Napolitan Student Center’s Branigin Room.

In addition, Miller will give a public address titled “Be your Own Best Friend” on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the Columbus Learning Center, 4555 Central Avenue, Columbus, Ind., as an offering of the 2008 Cummins Lecture.

“What an honor it is to be chosen as a 2008 Cummins Lecturer!” said Miller. “Ethics in the workplace and in the world are vital to creating a positive and vibrant life. Franklin College is doing an amazing job instilling positive values in its students through these lectures.”

“Franklin College seeks to bring to our campus and community dynamic leaders who translate ethics into action for the common good,” said Dr. James G. Moseley, president of Franklin College. “There are no easy solutions to the challenges we face. We need to hear directly from leaders—like Patricia Miller—who understand the complexity of those issues.”

“The Cummins’ partnership with Franklin College brings an important message to south central Indiana through the upcoming lecture series on ethical leadership,” said Tim Solso, Cummins Inc. chairman and CEO. “Social responsibility, civic engagement and diversity are both timely and timeless messages for corporations, community leadership, universities and any organization that affects the lives of people and communities.”

Vera Bradley is based in Fort Wayne, Ind., and was founded by Miller and friend Barbara Bradley Baekgaard in 1982. Vera Bradley products recently have been seen in more than 20 feature-length films, as well as in celebrity gift lounges surrounding the 2008 Tony Awards, 2008 Daytime Emmys and 2008 Sundance Film Festival.
