Former supplier sues handbag maker Vera Bradley

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - The owner of a company that used to assemble handbags and other accessories for Fort Wayne-based Vera Bradley Designs is suing for breach of contract.
The suit was filed by Robert Hinty, a majority owner of 3 companies that had contracts to sew products for Vera Bradley. In March, Vera Bradley announced it was taking the business in-house.
According to a lawsuit, the decision has left Hinty to repay a three million dollar loan taken out less than three years earlier to expand business with the handbag company. The suit seeks unspecified damages.
A spokeswoman for Vera Bradley says the company doesn’t comment on legal matters. Hinty couldn’t be reached for comment.
